O N V Kurup

One pinch of salt, if we
Never find in the beads of sweat and tears,
Very insular our minds are….
Kerala and Malayalam language
Unanimously salute your achievements;
Returning once more to the courtyard of memories
Unsung heroes who were consigned to the oblivion may sing:
Pelt not your eye sights at the crescent of the golden sickle…

(Congrats to Shree O.N.V. Kurup who won the Janpith for 2007)

..hmmm, I agree, dad

1
son,
that is not big aapam
that is the full moon
my dad taught me

son
that is not the big light
that is the sun
he taught me

son
that is not the big bee
that is aero plane
he taught me

son
that is not big pond
that is the sea
he taught me

son
that is not the big fan
that is called wind
he taught me

2
Doctor woke me up
I entered into the room
he was on the bed
I noticed his clothes
and bed sheets were wet
I patted on his back
and said “naughty boy”
I changed his clothes
the same way he had changed
my pampers long ago

I fed him
with the spoon
as if it still contains
my nostalgic baby food flakes
he was so comfortable
for he is my new born baby

“dad”, I called him
he did not recognize me
but I clasped him like a child
I caressed his bald head
he pointed afar
and said: “that is aapam”
hmmm I agreed
“that is big light”
hmmm I agreed
“that is big bee”
hmmm I agreed
“that is big pond”
hmmm I agreed

he looked at me
I did not disagree anything
I don’t.. I can't..
Alzheimer’s disease
shall interchange our relations
to return our love and affection
to the source of origin
as part of its medication

Krishna

Inspired by Mallick ji’s write-up on Janmashtami and Varanasi sir’s poem the nectar…

Krishna is a small poem
Reading from the past to the
Infinite future
Similes and metaphors
Harmoniously and richly blended in it
Nectar of everything visible,
And everything sensible weaves in it.
