Happy Onam for All

History or myth, the concept of Onam is good:
A generous king known as Mahabali had ruled Kerala
People were content, happy and harmonious then;
Pilfering, betrayal, hording and empty promises were unknown
Years went by, heavenly people got annoyed and envied

One dwarf Vamana, incarnation of Lord Vishnu,
Nicely approached Mahabali to test his devotee’s generosity;
A land of three-foot-long was Vamana’s kind request,
Mahabali agreed; Vamana grew up in his original form

First and second steps of Vamana measured the Earth & Heaven
Of course generous Mahabali went in dilemma for the third;
Requested by Vamana, he offered his head for the 3rd step

A generous king was thus pushed down to the nether world
Leaving time, the King appealed to his Lord, Vishnu, for a boon
Letting him visit his people once in a year; that marks ONAM

Onam is a festival that keeps together all the Keralites worldwide. It is a perfect symbol of Unity in Diversity.
