Again Cricket

My Sri Lankan colleagues
were happy
As we won the last match
with West Indies
normally, whenever we won
they would show their cheeks
like inflated balloons
but this time their happiness
really wondered me
and I asked them about the reason
they told me:
“we are lucky,
no match between India and Sri Lanka
on our land”
I intervened:
“Suppose, we lost to West Indies
and quarter final with you on your crease,
what will happen?”
“If the match becomes crucial,
you people will start praying
for a climatic change,
for that matter, a heavy downpour”
“so what?”
“ so what? A billion people’s collective prayers
cannot be ignored even by God,
your team will return home
accusing the torrential rain
but your face saving effort
will ultimately push our country
already prone to natural calamities
to a further calamitous disaster…”

Comments:

Cricket is a lovely pass time, to some it is a novel unfolding climaxes and anticlimaxes, to some it is another money-churning game by betting, still to some other it is puff of Havana cigar... its glorious uncertainties make it more glorious!
